Frankenstein in Pop Culture

The spirit of the creature of Frankenstein can be felt the most around Halloween. This is the one day in our culture that we can dress up as anything we choose, and a lot of people take the opportunity to dress up as the Frankenstein monster. However there is one significant difference between the monster in the book and how he is portrayed on Halloween. The traditional monster is usually green, very ugly, and appears as clumsy. He also usually has bolts coming out of his neck, although anyone who has ever read the novel knows this is far from what the creature really was. In the book, Frankenstein is a creature abandoned by the only family he has and left to live alone. He is not green, but a normal color, and is anything but clumsy. Due to the popularity of the monster, some things got twisted from the book to make the Frankenstein monster to appear more frightening. This is just an example of what happens when legend takes control of story.
